Privacy Policy – "Angeln DK" App
This privacy policy applies to the iOS app Angeln DK. It explains what data the app processes, for what purpose and on what legal basis. The app follows the principle of data minimisation: as much as possible stays on your device, and there is no tracking and no analytics. Advertising is limited to clearly labelled affiliate recommendation links for fishing gear (see section 13).

See the legal notice for provider identification.
2. Data that stays on your device
You create and store the following content yourself; it is kept locally on the device (Apple SwiftData or as files) and is not transmitted to the provider:
- your catch log (catches incl. optional photos, measurements, date, assigned spot),
- your own map markers/spots (name, note),
- your personal spot ratings (stars, wadeable, parking, etc.),
- fishing-licence (Fisketegn) documents stored in the Wallet,
- app settings (e.g. appearance, tab bar).
You can delete this data within the app at any time.
Camera, photo library, Face ID and NFC: For individual features the app accesses device functions – each only after your explicit permission: the camera or photo library to add catch and Fisketegn photos, Face ID to optionally protect your Wallet, and NFC to read a fish tag (recapture). This processing takes place exclusively on the device; no data is transmitted to the provider. The content created this way (e.g. photos) is stored as described above and – if you use it – synced via your private iCloud storage (see section 4).
3. Location data
If you allow it, the app uses your location to centre the map, warn you about protected zones (geofencing), find the nearest tide station and calculate features such as trolling speed. Location is determined on the device; your position is not transmitted to the provider. To fetch weather and tide data (see sections 6 and 7), location or station details are sent to the respective services (Apple, DMI).
4. iCloud sync of your own data
If you are signed in to iCloud on your device, the app can sync your own data (e.g. catch log, markers, personal ratings, Wallet documents) across your devices via your private iCloud storage (Apple CloudKit – private database). This data resides in your personal iCloud account; the provider has no access to it. The processor is Apple. Apple's privacy policy applies (apple.com/legal/privacy). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR (providing the sync feature).
5. Community spot ratings (anonymous)
For each fishing spot the app shows an anonymous aggregate of all users' ratings (e.g. "avg. 4.2★ from 18 ratings", "mostly wadeable"). For this, your own structured rating is uploaded to a public Apple CloudKit database. Only predefined choice and numeric values are transmitted:
- stars (1–5), wadeable (yes/partly/no), parking (yes/no), ground, crowding, "already caught" (yes/no),
- the spot identifier and a timestamp,
- a pseudonymous identifier (see below).
There is no free text, no name, no precise position and no other personal data. Other users only see the aggregated result, never individual people.
Pseudonymous identifier: So that you can change and delete your own contribution and only one vote per Apple ID counts per spot, a pseudonymous identifier is stored. It is a non-reversible hash (SHA-256) derived from an Apple iCloud identifier. It contains no clear name and does not allow direct identification of you.
Your objection / deletion: You can remove your community contribution at any time – in the spot view via "Remove mine", or all at once under Settings → Data & Storage → "Remove community ratings".
The processor is Apple (CloudKit). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a shared, anonymous assessment of fishing spots). In the required balancing of interests, your interests do not override this: only pseudonymous, structured choice and numeric values are processed – with no clear name, free text or precise position – you are informed in advance, the contribution is only made when you actively upload it, and you can object or delete at any time (see above).
6. Reporting function
If a spot's community data looks nonsensical or manipulated, you can report it. Only the spot identifier, a timestamp and your pseudonymous identifier (see section 5) are stored in the public database, so that the aggregate is automatically hidden once a threshold is reached. No further data is collected.
7. Weather and wind (Apple WeatherKit)
Weather and wind data are obtained via Apple WeatherKit. To deliver location-based forecasts, location details are transmitted to Apple. The processor is Apple; Apple's privacy policy applies. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
8. Tides and water temperature (DMI Open Data)
Tide and water-temperature data come from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) via its open government data interface (Open Data). To query it, station or location details are sent to DMI servers; for technical reasons your IP address is visible to DMI. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. More information: dmi.dk.
9. Maps (Apple MapKit)
Maps are displayed via Apple MapKit. Technically necessary requests are processed by Apple to provide the maps. The processor is Apple; Apple's privacy policy applies.
10. Notifications
Reminders (e.g. about the validity of your fishing licence) are generated on the device. If iCloud sync is active, Apple may use push notifications to inform your device about changes to your synced data; no content reaches the provider as a result.
11. Leaderboards (Apple Game Center)
The app offers optional leaderboards via Apple Game Center (e.g. number of catches, species caught, spots visited, largest fish). If you use this feature, Game Center signs you in with your Apple ID, and the app transmits the numeric values mentioned – calculated from your catch log – to Game Center. There they are stored together with your Game Center nickname and are visible to other players in the leaderboards. No catch details, photos or locations are transmitted. You can also view your personal values locally without Game Center. You control Game Center under iOS Settings → Game Center and can disable sign-in there at any time. The processor is Apple; Apple's privacy policy applies. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (providing the leaderboard feature you requested).
12. In-app purchases and unlock codes ("Angeln DK Pro")
With "Angeln DK Pro" the app offers a one-time in-app purchase (no subscription) that permanently unlocks additional features. The purchase and payment are handled exclusively by Apple via the App Store (Apple is the seller / "merchant of record"). The provider receives no payment data (e.g. no card or account details), at most anonymous, aggregated sales figures from Apple. Whether the features are unlocked is determined by the app via Apple (StoreKit); a "Restore purchase" option is available. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the purchase contract) or (f) (providing the unlocked features). The processor is Apple.
Free 7-day trial: A free trial period starts automatically on first launch. So that it is not reset by a reinstall, the time of first launch is mirrored in your private iCloud key-value store. This value resides in your personal iCloud account; the provider has no access to it.
Unlock codes: If you have a free unlock code (e.g. from us or a partner), you can unlock Pro with it. When redeeming, the entered code, a timestamp and the pseudonymous identifier described in section 5 (SHA-256, no clear name) are written to a public Apple CloudKit database – solely to validate the code and count redemptions. No further personal data is collected, and only when you actively redeem a code. The processor is Apple (CloudKit). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR.
13. Tracking, advertising & affiliate links
The app contains no tracking or analytics services, no advertising identifier (IDFA) and no third-party SDKs for data collection. No tracking takes place within the app itself.
The app does, however, contain affiliate recommendation links for physical fishing gear, clearly labelled as advertising. When you tap such a link, the respective online shop – e.g. Amazon or a fishing shop via the AWIN partner network – opens in your browser. The link address contains a partner identifier that lets the shop attribute any resulting purchase to us and pay us a commission – at no extra cost to you. From the moment you tap the link, the privacy policy of the respective shop applies; any cookies or technologies used there are beyond our control. We ourselves receive no personal data about you, at most anonymous, aggregated statistics (e.g. number of sales) from the partner programme.
14. Recipients and international transfers
Recipients in the sense of processors or service providers are Apple (iCloud/CloudKit, WeatherKit, MapKit, Game Center, App Store) and the DMI (tides/water). Where data is processed outside the EU/EEA – in particular in the USA by Apple – this is based on appropriate safeguards (e.g. the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or EU standard contractual clauses). The app is obtained via the Apple App Store; Apple processes the data associated with the download under its own responsibility.
15. Retention
On-device data remains stored until you delete it or remove the app. Synced data remains in your iCloud account until you delete it. Your community contributions remain in the public database until you remove them (see section 5).
16. Your rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
- Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR)
You can additionally delete your own data and community contributions directly in the app at any time (see sections 2 and 5).
17. Supervisory authority
